What Secrets Does The Forest Hold by Esther Geh
I wanted to create a box that can be filled with treasures ( whatever that means for each individual). Something that felt a little vintage, with images that were more illustrative than my regular style. A touch of "The Secret Garden" meets a magical tropical rainforest!
That was how “What Secrets Does The Forest Hold” evolved.
CROSSING BORDERS
This project seeks to delve into all aspects of what it means to migrate, the benefits as well as the consequences. The theme encompasses migrating fauna, as well as human migration. The aim is to provoke the audience to consider the narrative of the migrant, to understand and empathise with both the material, and psychological journey involved, and to question their personal relationship to migration.
Whilst researching subjects for various commissions over the last couple of years, Esther became fascinated with the fact that many plants which are now commonly cultivated in Penang and other parts of Malaysia, either ornamentally, or as crops, are in fact not endemic to this part of the world. Conversely, many indigenous plants of Malaysia have been collected, cultivated, and are now recognised and planted worldwide. For the Crossing Borders exhibition, she chose to depict three of the most iconic plants from Malaysia that have been exported around the world.

SESI SENI WITH ESTHER GEH
by Penang Art District
"We chatted with Esther Geh, an anesthesiologist turned full-time artist, who founded The Art E Space as a shared space for friends of an art club to get together. Eventually, the space grew into a co-sharing space for artists from various genres and background to explore, learn and exchange. from one another.
Esther also shared her journey from leaving her medical career to pursue the arts – the challenges faced entering the arts scene at a later stage of her career and the importance of building a support system within the arts community. Her botanical paintings, encouraged by her background in the field of science, bring out the intricate details of our natural world, which we sometimes overlook. We also challenged the definition of 'professional artist' and explored what it takes to start out an art career at a later stage in life."
