ARTIST PROFILE

Who is Esther Geh?

My artistic journey is an unexpected but beautifully fruitful and rewarding one. Born in Penang, Malaysia, I spent my early years enjoying the laid back and addicting island-life of this tropical paradise that makes locals never want to leave and tourists constantly coming back for more. I then attended boarding school and university in the rainy but lovely UK and went on to pursue medicine as an anesthesiologist.

And after investing years of tears, blood, and sweat into this career, what happens next? The banes of my existence: kids!

I returned to Penang to get married and start a family, but continued to practice medicine in both Malaysia and Singapore for a few years whilst managing two mischievous (but adorable) little girls. Fast-forward a few years and a third "gift," I stopped practicing and began spending more time drawing and painting, something I had only really done on family holidays or in the very rare occurrences that I had some free time on my hands.

A few sketches here and there turned into the formation of the Penang Creative Art Club; the opening of an open studio space, The Art E Space; and many, many tireless nights completing commissions and collections for various exhibitions.

I am so encouraged and excited about the burgeoning art scene in Penang over the past few years and the friends, opportunities, and community that have blossomed from it. I look forward to sharing my work and passion with you!

Sincerely,

Botanical artist,

Esther
